Run Like a Mother Training Program

Run Like a MotherAwaken the inner runner in you and participate in Run like a Mother’s 6 Week Training Program. This once a week intensive training is an all-women’s training workout. Each session brings you closer and closer to running your first 5k marathon weekly homework that would ensure that you are ready to run that extra mile at the end of the 6-week training course. Training will take place at the California State University and will begin on April 1, 2012 at 5:00 pm.

Bulldog Bike Road Race

The Bulldog Bike Road Race is the first race in the 2012  MARSOC Hard Corps® Race Series. This 26-mile road race has ocean views throughout the majority of the course, and is one of three opportunities this year to ride on base.

Perfect warm-up for the April Devil Dog Duathlon and August Sprint Triathlon!

Great T-shirts, post race food and massage, and awards presented in over 60 race categories.

COURSE: This 26-mile road race starts in the 43 Area, down Las Pulgas Road towards the ocean and onto Stuart Mesa Road, heading south. There is an approximate 1-mile steep climb that levels off, keeps climbing at mile 13, then descends down at a 10% grade. The remainder of the course is rolling. Ocean views are throughout the majority of the course; this is one of three opportunities to ride on base. Perfect warm-up for the Duathlon and Triathlon. THE BIKE PORTION IS NOT A CLOSED COURSE. YOU WILL BE SHARING THE ROAD WITH CARS – PLEASE RIDE SAFELY.

SCHEDULE: Race starts at 8:30 am – for your safety, you will be going off in waves. Day of race registration and t-shirt pick-up open at 6:30 am.

ENTRY FEES: CIVILIANS: $40 on or before March 9th, $50 after March 9th and on race day. ACTIVE-DUTY MILITARY (not stationed at Camp Pendleton): $30. MAKE CHECKS PAYABLE TO: MCCS Fund 0140. Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

DEADLINES: Mail in deadline – March 9th, online registration deadline – March 14th. Register by March 2nd to receive your race number and confirmation by mail, free of charge. Note: if you live aboard Camp Pendleton or out of state, race numbers will not be mailed out – you may pick up your numbers on race morning.

RULES: Helmets are required. Minimum age for participating is 13 years old. We’re sorry, but headphones and ear buds are prohibited during the event (base rules), no recumbent or tandem bicycles allowed, and no aero bars allowed in use. Events are held rain or shine and entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Liability waiver must be signed by all participants on race morning. Please note: there is a 2 hour 30 minute time limit on the completion of the course.

DIRECTIONS: From I-5, exit Las Pulgas and follow “RACE EVENT” signs to the race site. Bring a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and vehicle registration. Allow 30 minutes from the base gate to the race site. When aboard the base, please follow all posted speed limits.

CATEGORIES: Military and Civilian Divisions offer categories for Age Group, Clydesdale (male 200 lbs.+), Athena (female 160 lbs.+), Mountain Bike (no age group), and Challenged Athlete. Age groups are 13-19, (18-24 military), 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, (50+ military), 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 and 80+.

RESULTS, AWARDS, POINTS & PHOTOS: 11:00 am awards ceremony for the top 3 overall males and females. Awards pickup for age group winners will take place throughout the morning. Awards given to the top 3 overall finishers as well as to the top 3 in each division. Points for the 2012 MARSOC Hard Corps® Race Series awarded to the top 10 overall males and females in both military and civilian categories. For Camp Pendleton active-duty, points go towards the Pendleton Cup. Results also posted at 3:00 pm on race day; photos posted the week following the event at www.brightroom.com.

Orange County High School and Middle School Surfing Competition

On Saturday, February 25, 2012, student teams will be showcasing their surfing skills at the High School and Middle School Surfing Competition at the South Pier Beach, between 7:00 in the morning and 4:30 in the afternoon. Sponsored by Scholastic Surf Series, winners from the Orange County section will go against representatives from the San Diego as well as the LA to Santa Barbara sections in the State Championships.
